The hippo enthralls children and adults alike. Its stocky figure along with the short legs is something that kids find endearing. The bulky water-loving creature mostly found in sub-Saharan Africa could give little ones a lesson or two in drawing. Follow the simple steps given below.

Draw three circles along a curved line. The smallest circle is not a complete one. Divide the medium circle diagonally and draw four curved lines below the circles to serve as the starting point of the legs.

Complete the muzzle, lower jaw and the forehead of the creature as shown in pictures 3 and 4. Draw within the circular outlines of the previous step.

Add the eyes, ears and the nostrils to the head of the hippo.

Draw the neck and the back with neat curves.

Give shape to the anterior left leg along with the nails and the folds on the skin. Next, draw the underbelly with a curved line.

You will find that the entire drawing relies on the basic trio of circles for the muzzle, head and the body. The lines that were made for representing the four legs in the first step form the central axis of the thick legs. You can erase these outlines once you are finished with the drawing.
